Last Parliament Sitting for 2012 concludes!

Last parliamentary sitting for 2012 has finally concluded peacefully without any dispute. However the highlight of the meeting includes the RONWAN capital and the Landowners request for a land rental increase from $3.60 per sqm to possibly $8.00 per sqm. Both issues are being raised by the Hon. David Adeang directed to the President H.E Sprent Dabwido and the Hon. Marcus Stephen Minister for Nauru Phosphate Royalty Trust or NPRT.

The first question was aimed directly at the Minister for NPRT Hon. Marcus Stephen, and he said “the RONWAN capital of $85 million has been reinvested by the Receivers and the Supreme Court in Australia”. Reason(s) not clearly explained by the Minister, but said that he and his NPRT Board are still working on this matter closely.

The second question was aimed directly at the President H.E Sprent Dabwido regarding the landowners request for a land rental increase. The President said “the government has no power to amend the laws, except the parliament which is the legislating body legally established by law.” Then the president continue saying “as members of parliament, it is your primary role to fill in the gaps the government cannot cover since it almost have up to around approximately 100 daily commitments to oversee and coordinate.”

So he said to all the members of parliament, “You are all here to represent the people, if they have anything for the government, please bring them up to my office or prepare a bill and submit it to parliament for consideration and deliberation”.

At the end of the parliament sitting, each members of parliament wishes the Speaker of Parliament the Hon. Ludwig Scotty, his staff and each other a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
