Housing Refund

The Government of Nauru with the assistance of the Republic of China, Taiwan has issued a notice to the general public in regard to the refund of housing payments owed to the Nauruan’s by the Nauru Works Department back in the earlier millennium 2000. The Nauru Works Department is an abolished entity under the Public Service due to its failure to delivering the Government of Nauru’s civil services, which is to carry out maintenance work on all the houses in Nauru.

In 2006, the Parliament of Nauru resolved that the department be abolished and it workers be transferred to Eigigu Holdings Corporation. Eigigu Holdings Corporation is a government entity established under the State owned Enterprises. At the time when Parliament decides to pass a resolution, Eigigu Holdings Corporation was at its fiscal peak.

Unfortunately, with the extra heavy load to accommodate the Parliament resolution, the company only managed to sustain it operations for another 3 years before it collapses and the government dare not decide to lend any help, but rather advised the company’s Board and Management to find its own way out of the trench.

After 3 years of devastating struggle financially, the Board decides to introduce new reform measures which help the company today to recover and expand its services again across the country. However, with the assistance of the Republic of China, Taiwan, the Government of the Republic of Nauru has managed to settle it outstanding debts with the people of Nauru incurred through the Nauru Works Department.
