The former All Blacks coach and player Mr Michael
Niko Jones is on Nauru as the Matson Shipping Services representative. The
Iceman said he enjoyed his time here on the island and silently assessing the
possibility in setting up a ruby team here in Nauru. Though Aussie Rules
Football is considered the country’s favourite sport, the game no longer
have many fans like back in the olden days since its temporary closure few
years back, due to the extend amount of violence the sport experienced through
rival districts.

Now the sport has been re-introduced, but at a
more professional level, where team players are no longer representing their
respective districts, but representing the pre-selected team as established by
the Nauru AFL Association. The sport is being managed directly by the
Ministry of Sport and headed by the Permanent Secretary for Sport Mr Rayong Itsimaera and his departmental staffs. Hence, there are people interested in playing
ruby in Nauru and this will be a wonderful opportunity for them to be able to
have someone with a professional background like Mr. Jones.
